Personality Dionysus isn't a cruel deity, only to people who rightfully deserve it. Though that's not always good cause since he's a god he feels only he can judge who deserves his wrath and if you're not on his good side he'll punish you every little thing that pisses him off. On the other hand he can be very playful and friendly. He doesn't like to hurt innocent people, but enjoys demonstrating a show of force on people he deems as wrong or just a pain in his ass. Yes this handsome and dashing is the party animal of the greek gods. He has almost an animalistic instinct in how to make something interesting. Dio's not known for his careful tongue and will blurt something out right after he thinks it most of the time. He's incredibly impulsive and indulgent doing things sometimes just to do them. Dionysus is very open minded he rarely turns down a chance to try something new. He's a hedonist til the end doing whatever he can to make his life more enjoyable. That said he isn't a selfish man in fact quite the opposite. He is very kind and gives his help whenever it's needed. His compassion is probably his most defining trait. He cannot look upon people's suffering without finding a way to help them. He would go through hell itself if he had to. His first mother was human therefore he has quite a soft spot for humanity as opposed to some other gods who use them as bolt target practice. | |
History Dionysus was born to the mortal Semele and the King of the Gods, Zeus. Hera was angry with his affair and had Semele killed in fire. Zeus sewed the baby into his thigh keeping him until he was ready to be born. This is why Dionysus is a god and not a Demigod. When he was born he was sent to live with a group of nymphs who cared for him. There he grew as a young boy, many people hearing he was the son of Zeus came to worship him at the mountain. A local Noble, Lycurgus, heard of this and had his army go to the mountain to destroy the child. Dionysus, only a small boy, fled in fear into the sea. There a sea maiden cared for him and eventually he grew into his tween years returning to the world. Dionysus found himself struck with madness by Hera, he eventually fought through it pushing himself back to sanity. He spent years wandering through a desert until he came under the care of a man named Athamas, a king and his wife. They took in the boy learning he was the son of Zeus. There he learned of the grapevine and began making wine from it. His gift was given to many people and it made them happy, taking away their cares even for just one night. He learned to conjure up grapevines on command and even to turn liquid into wine. He threw marvelous parties which attracted mostly women seeking to escape the harshness of their home lives. Dionysus roamed the forest in the night where a great many creatures, animals, humans, whatever was in the area. When they drank of his wine they broke out in ecstatic revelry. He was drunk through the partying and had to be held up by the people with him. They even built him a throne to sit upon, but he was too wasted to even get to it. The party lasted for hours until a thunderstorm hit. Lightning struck the ground where him and his friends were. Dio believed it was Zeus and brought all of those with him to safety. The storm ended soon after and the group resumed their partying through the forest. In his travels he was met with much opposition. People didn't enjoy the revelry he brought with him and the wild like people who followed him. At times this brought him into fights. He traveled around the Enchanted forest bringing joy and sometimes disruption wherever he went. Pentheus, his cousin, believed he was a fraud. Dionysus caused his family to go mad and tear the man apart. He had tried to kill the god's people too many times. Several of his friends were killed when he attempted to show mercy and they just couldn't back off. Soon he found himself on a small island where he met a beautiful maiden named Ariadne. She was abandoned by Theseus whom she saved from the minotaur. He pretended to love her in order to gain her help then left her behind in the night. The two eventually fell in love and married, she became his immortal bride. He cheated on her once and felt remorse when he saw himself breaking his oath and being no better then Theseus. Lycurgus came for him when he tried to return to his childhood home. He ended up killing one of the god's Maenads and in a rage Dionysus ripped out his eyes and locked him in a cave to die. When others came to avenge the people he had killed, Dionysus set their path on fire killing most of them. The rest ran far away. When the curse hit Dionysus was taken along with his Maenads and Ariadne. In Storybrooke he was Dylan Nysos a man of 21 that did volunteer work at the local schools for kids who were bullied. He also managed a Liquor store, a job most suited to his special talents. Now that the curse has broken and he has his powers he's looking to find his people and girlfriend. |
